Ulverston Statue To Be Unveiled In April

    The Westmorland Gazette writes...

A LONG-awaited tribute to one of the most celebrated comedy duos ever will be officially unveiled next April, it was confirmed this evening (Monday 27th Octobr 2008).

A statue depicting comic legends Stan Laurel, who was born in Ulverston, and Oliver Hardy will be placed in Laurel's hometown as the centrepiece of the £500,000 revamp of County Square.

And at tonight's town council meeting, Jayne Kendall, who as regeneration manager for South Lakeland District Council has been the spearhead of the County Square project, confirmed a ceremony would take place in April.

When asked by Councillor Pat Jones who would be conducting the unveiling, she said: "We are working on it."
