Here's some information that came in the
mail today regarding the upcoming 2007
Oliver Hardy Festival in Georgia....
____________________________________________________________

I wanted to pass along some information for any Son coming to the Oliver
Hardy Festival in Harlem, Georgia, in several weeks. The Sons of the Desert
Reception that the city holds for all Sons on Friday, October 5th, will
begin at 7:00 p.m. This year, it will take place (for the first time) in a
new location. It will be at the large home on the corner just up the street
(west) from City Hall. It's being converted into a bed and breakfast, which
I think is great. This will provide a wonderful site for future visitors to
Harlem to stay right in the downtown area and enjoy the warmth and charm of
this lovely southern city. This B&B will have the name Red Oaks Manor (so
called because of the many red oak trees on the property). It was recently
purchased by the Mayor of Harlem, Scott Dean and his wife, Renee, and her
family. As an aside, I might mention that this home was where Linda
Caldwell once lived with her family for many years. Linda is well-known to
many Sons and has been VERY instrumental in helping to oversee the
operations of The Laurel and Hardy Museum of Harlem, Georgia, and has been
an officer in the local Berth Marks Tent. At past receptions, there have
been many Harlem city officials, and officials from near-by cities and
Georgia state representatives that attended. And there is always PLENTY of
great food and drinks for everyone. The Sons thank Harlem for hosting this
wonderful event for us. Once the reception is over, all visiting Sons are
invited to attend a meeting of the local Berth Marks Tent which will be held
at the Museum.
