    Sun 5th August 2007

BIG SCREEN CINEMA SHOWING OF LAUREL & HARDY IN LANARK

Lanark's Regal Cinema in Bannatyne street opened on the 31st August 1936. The opening ceremony was performed by Lord Dunglass, a title held at the time by Alec Douglas-Home, who would later briefly serve as British Prime Minister from 1964-65. On the opening night at the Regal, the main attraction was 'The Bohemian Girl' starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. Also on the bill that night was a rare little treasure called 'Manhattan Monkey Business' starring Charley Chase and James Finlayson.

In collaboration with the current regal management, we have arranged 'A Special Evening of Laurel and Hardy' on Sunday 5th August. The highlight of the event will be 'big screen' showings of 'The Bohemian Girl' and 'Manhattan Monkey Business' as well as a few other little treats.

Special guests coming along include Claire McGuinness from Larbert who is a relation of James Finlayson and well known Scottish entertainer and TV star Johnny Beattie MBE who will talk about the time he saw Laurel and Hardy LIVE in Glasgow.

Sounds fantastic, I for one can't wait, its very fitting for the film to be shown in the venue after all this time.

Great idea and a lovely venue (inside at least). Sadly I don't think I can justify another trip this year, unless I want my soul repossesed by the bank!

Claire McGuinness from Larbert in Scotland, a relation of James Finlayson , has just confirmed she will be attending this event as one of our guests. She is currently trying to locate some rare family photos. Very Happy

Dear Ross,

I'm sorry..but I woint be able to attened

the screening of"The Boheimian Girl"in Scotland.

I'm glad of course that the film will be seen by

alot of people comedy and L&H fans old and

young.

A good number of those young fans..unless

they are members of"The Sons Of The Desert"

or they've seen this film at a private screening

somewhere?

They've never experienced watching this

classic piece of film comedy history in a

movie theater.

I hope that the screening will be a hit

and more audiences young and old will

get a chance to see the boys' films at

screenings in movie theaters in the Brittish

Isles, here is The USA and at other functions

in the world in the near future.

Thanks For your reply

and Thanks for mentioning

this special screening of Stan and

Babe's film parody of Mike Balfe's

"Boheimian Girl",

Will be calling you tomorrow for a couple of tickets Ross... It's a long way to come from the Bath/Bristol area (although I'm sure I won't be anywhere near the furthest traveller), but it will be absolutely worth it - can't wait to meet and make some new friends amongst the fraternity!!

Thanks to all those who are making this happen Razz
