Good news, I managed to get the day off, can't wait to see Dean Stockwell, I've watched just about everything he's been in, Compulsion was the best.

Ross and myself went in today, spoke at length to Rob Lewis, whom was a very nice man, about the boys and the Sons in general. At a certain autograph stall I found they not only had Stan and Oliver, but James Finlayson, Billy Gilbert, Charles Middleton, Mack Sennett, Ben Turpin, W.C. Feilds and Harry Langdon, sadly I hadn't robbed a bank before we got there.

We met Dean Stockwell and Ross met David Carradine, while I inadvertantly insulted Mr Carradine....twice Razz but I didn't realise I had said what I did so loudly until Ross told me afterwards. Both Dean and David looked like they didn't want to be there, Dean sitting hiding his face with a baseball cap and drinking a bottle of beer and David sitting having a cigarette which cause Anthony Daniels to pick an arguement with him....sadly we missed the fight Sad

The stallholders all thought the day had been slow but said Sunday is usually their busy day, also Jeff Wayne had to pull out at the last minute but this was advertised on the ticket office window incase anyone was making the journey just to see him. I'm sure Ross will post the pictures of Rob's stall soon.

Got your stuff signed Drew....

Stockwell signed his name on your item whilst Carradine says 'Peace Drew' as well as signing it. All in all I think you'll be delighted with the results.

Willl post them Monday and will scan them and post them here later tonight (after 1am) to let you see them meantime.

Ross

As you can tell by the picture of Ross and Dean Stockwell, Mr Stockwell was terrified that Ross would steal his beer Laughing I wonder who warned him in advance?

Here's a scan of your signed items Drew. Hope you like them Very Happy
To be honest, as you may see from the look of their faces in my photographs, I don't think Dean and David (Stockwell and Carrradine, not McKeown) wanted to be there, but in the end we got what you wanted.

Item 1: signed on front in silver... "Dean Stockwell"

Item 2: signed on front in blue "To Drew, Peace, David Carradine" (followed by symbol of peace drawn by David Carradine).

lol it certainly looked that way at the time didn't it? hehe.

On meeting him I mentioned to Dean Stockwell that Dean and I were from the Laurel & Hardy Society... he replied " you're Larry who?" - straight away I knew we were in for communication problems with the difference in lingo Shocked

One interesting little thing... I asked Dean Stockwell to dedicate an autograph to the Fra Diavolo tent, but my Scots accent was so vague to him, I had to write it down. Just before he read what I had written down, I said, "it means the devils brother" to which Stockwell immediately replied "oh, Fra Diavolo?". Reputable actors tend to know their stuff and despite his frustration at attending a memorabilia exhibition in Glasgow instead of spending his time making a mutli million dollar movie, Mr Stockwell proved to me with that single comment that he knew his stuff!

After I got my pic taken with David Carradine (photo taken by Dean) I said to Dean "ok your turn" to which Dean (in full earshot of David Carradine) replied " I don't want to meet HIM!" - I believe there was one person in China who didn't hear what Dean said! Embarassed

Anyway, Carradine politely didn't perform his martial arts skills on Dean. However, he almost used them on Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels (aka C3PO) after Daniels asked... *edit*... I'll rephrase that - TOLD...Carradine to extinguish his cigarette, further escalating a personal feud between the two of them (100% true). It's amazing what you find out at these type of events. I had my camera at the ready, but thankfully, unlike Carradines most recent movie Kill Bill where he played the lead role, no blood was shed.

Without a doubt, the highlight of the day for me was meeting the man behind the L&H magazine, Rob Lewis. A gem of a man, dedicated wholeheartedly to maintaining the memory of Laurel and Hardy. So much so that he has successfully made his love for 'the boys' his full time occupation. I look forward to meeting you again Rob. Very Happy

I had a great day... even in the company of our vice sheik... messr. McKeown (aka as our Dean). Razz
