I just dug up another really wonderful article. I am not sure it has ever been reprinted, but it certainly may have. Anyway, it is an interview with Stan's father done near the height of Stan's fame—1932! In the interview, A.J. talks about how Stan was not initially thrilled when he saw his first motion picture, and how he nearly died in a plane crash! A.J. also takes credit for the story idea that became "Another Fine Mess." He even predicts television! Check it out by clicking MY LAD LAUREL.

Good find, Lucy! I am sure there are lots of other interesting articles out there on The Boys and it sure would be swell for them to be made available to anyone at anytime via the internet. I'm just doing my small part.

, it was based on AJ`s short sketch "Home from the Honymoon" and I think Stan also mentions it in an interview , nice work though Bernie Very Happy

I just posted another TERRIFIC vintage article written by a reporter who visited Stan's apartment in 1961 when Marcel Marceau came to visit. I can't say enough about this article. I absolutely love the descriptions of Stan's "belly-laughs." First-hand reports like this bring Stan to life for me! Something I hope reading his letters at the "Stan Laurel Correspondence Archive Project" does for fans who visit. In the article, Stan once again talks lovingly about Babe, confirms his friendship with Jerry Lewis and laments Chaplin's treatment in America. He also expresses his appreciation for Laurel & Hardy fans in Europe and Asia. This article is a "must read!" Check it out:

MARCEAU CALLS HIM 'ZE MASTER OF PANTOMIME'

You're right, Bernie. That was a great article. Thanks for posting it.

I wonder who the un-named Roach studio worker quoted in the article was?

I just received my copy of the DVD containing footage from Stan Laurel's Funeral and boy, is it moving! I heartily recommend it to everyone. You can purchase a copy from http://www.reelclassicdvd.com/

It's a bonus feature on a DVD titled LAUREL AND HARDY "RARITIES," and sells for just $20.00 The silent, black and white footage appears to have been taken by an amateur and is a lot longer than I was expecting it to be.

I am creating a very short edited piece from the film to use on "Letters From Stan." I plan on adding titles identifying some of the people arriving to the Memorial Service along with an appropriate music track. The film will be much shorter than what is on the DVD to entice you to buy the full DVD. It's a small price to pay for such a rare film.

I hope to have something uploaded by the weekend.

Bernie

I acquired it this week too and was thinking of adding the Dick Van Dyke eulogy as the audio soundtrack.

I created a moving tribute for the "Letters From Stan" website and edited the funeral footage into a poignant little film. Take a look and tell me what you think:

Bernie that is quite frankly the best montage ever. What a tribute. The soundtrack is perfect - your choice of shots is perfect - the ending is very touching. Amazing work - well done - I really mean that!

A very well done tribute, Bernie. Great.
And thanks for adding all these names.
It's perfect.

Just as a side note: "Smile" - music composed by Charlie Chaplin Laughing
