Um…morbid? Not at all. What we're talking about here is the Memorial Service that was attended by friends, fans and admirers of Stan, including Buster Keaton, Dick Van Dyke and Hal Roach. If footage exists, I am hopeful that it would be quite moving.

That`s phantastic! I have some black and white (but mute) film footage of his funeral. I could post some snapshots of it, if someone is interested!

The first-person report from Stan's funeral is now online. I guarantee that if you are a fan of Stan Laurel—you WILL be moved by this account. It is really well-written and honestly had me wiping tears from my eyes the first time I read it. With it, I am also inaugurating a new feature to LettersFromStan.com—the sidebar. I will be adding more articles over the next couple of weeks that help embellish Stan's own words to more fully tell his life story.

Thanks again to everyone who has supported this ambitious project with copies of letters in their collection and words of encouragement. The work we are doing together in this effort is so very important that I cannot even begin to put it into words. If we don't work together to preserve Stan's letters and articles like this account of his final Memorial Service, who will?

CLICK HERE to read this loving tribute to Stan.

Bernie

Every time I visit your site to catch up with a new update I end up there for hours reading through the many letters. It's so interesting and tells us so much we didn't know about Stan - like his exact thoughts and feelings when Babe died etc. Amazing. I thought it was funny when Stan 'embarrassingly' wrote to Gary Arnold by mistake. A similar thing happened to me once. I wonder if any stills, articles or footage exists of Ollie's funeral. I note from the letters archive that there was a big turnout and that Lois attended.

Ross,

I have a large file of hundreds of newspaper articles that I plan on utilizing at LettersFromStan.com for the 'Sidebar' feature. On your suggestion I'll add any appropriate articles on Babe's memorial service to the appropriate section.

is this Stan and Lois? They look so different Surprised

I just added a new letter to the Archive dated October 26, 1962, where Stan reveals that he not only regularly traded letters with the imposter but gave him his okay to continue billing himself as his brother! Check the letter out. It is a great example of Stan's kindness and generosity!
