A friend of mine joined here a couple of days ago but has since been banned after he tried to introduce himself on here.

He stated what his job was ( a Mental 'H.E.A.L.T.H' nurse) but was banned because he was told the post he was making was spam, due to the 2nd word in his job description.

I myself have had a warning because of a 'so-called' spam word.
Is there anything you can do about this please. It seems very unfair.

It is unfair, however not done deliberately. Please note that there are a lot of spammers signing up to this forum. I'm sure the admins will solve this problem for your friend.

He has been unbanned now. He emailed me about this.

The spam filter has honestly been an excellent addition to the site which has recently been targetted a lot by these spam bots. As such our filter checks the words being posted for members with less than 10 posts.

In his very first post, he posted the word free. He then posted health (another popular word for spam bots) and after being told it was a banned word he tried again, resulting in the automatic ban.

As we know he is a real person though, we can obviously do something about it -which I have now done. Any more problems, he can email me again.

Hey thanks for that Blackraven.

Much appreciated.

I fully understand about spammers and appreciate your efforts to avoid them!

Belting - I'm back.

Ta for sorting folks - these filters are a pain though(!)

So yep - I am a Registered Nurse (Mental Haelth) - good grief - so I have to spell it that way to get it to work?

Ah well!

Ta once again.

Actually, I like spam. I can have spam on toast, spam saussage spam eggs spam and more toast...

No, but seriously, it's good to have those spam filters, because a few weeks ago, there would be new "members" every day, posting ads for prescription drugs and even links to nasty sites that nobody would want their kids to know about. There was someone who had a list of links, each the name of various body parts and actions that have no place on a Laurel and Hardy site. I know that the Boys certainly wouldn't approve of such use of a site that's named for them. Sorry to hear about your friend's difficulty. Maybe there can be a basic warning made for new members for them to avoid mentioning certain words in their first post.

By the way, I'm selling, almost FREE, certified snake bite remedy, deeds to the Brooklyn bridge, insider trading on the stock market, free drugs, and movies that would make Mae Busch blush...
no, of course not, but I thought that would sound funny.

Have a merry Christmas, everyone, and a good new year.

I have reduced it to a minimum of 5 posts before you can post the off-limit words.

What a ridiculous statement. For me, this is THE most user-friendly forum I know!

Give it a while, Columbo. You will find this is the friendliest forum on the net.

We are all friends here, all like-minded, and all huge fans of Stan and Ollie.

So, in the right spirit, Welcome.

Columbo has asked me to post this on his behalf. He can't do it himself because he has been banned AGAIN....

(Copy sent to Blackraven).

Joined... got banned due to a stupid spam filter.

I'm WELL peed off as it has happened again:

"P is a spam word"

What the heck?

I typed in a load of info as to my interests/the tent I used to go to/L&H faves - and then it beggared up - I have to say, if this is how easy the thing cocks up I'm very surprised to find that that anyone posts here at all... I have been running/modding/posting on forums for years now, but this has got to be the worst - I have NEVER had this problem before - okay, so it makes the mods job easier... too easy I reckon though - what's the point in having any if this Orwellian contraption does this all the time?

This has got to be THE most user-unfriendly forum I have ever come across - and it's very disheartening to type in a load of stuff as an intro. to see myself get banned again... I do like the look of the forum, but thanks to all the hassle, I wonder if I can be bothered to make the effort to post again (should I be unbanned).

If I were posting Laurel and Hardy/selling stuff, then I could understand it - be to be banned indiscriminately does not look too good I reckon.

Neil. (Columbo)

Now I'm back, I'm here to say summat.

YES... I really do feel that this forum is user-unfriendly... that's the SOFTWARE MANAGEMENT I refer too, not the people.

Hopefully it's sorted now - I am a regular on numerous forums and have been for yonks and have NEVER experienced probs. like this, so that's why I was peed off...

Imagine if you'd spent over 5 mins. typing to introduce yourself and put in loads of info. to then get banned... and for it to happen a second time - I reckon the fact that I've come back AGAIN is a credit to the forum and the quality of the material I found here... because otherwise I wouldn't have bothered - so take some pride in that folks.

Hope that clears things up - I want to post here, have a laugh and join in - not cause trouble.

Regards.

Neil.

No offence, but I'm basing this on experience, and that is a valid statement - sorry if you feel it's unfair, and yes, I HATE the 's' word... I've had to deal with loads of racist/Laurel and Hardy/sexist/anti-religious/advertising etc. type material so I know it's a problem... but heck, that's what I thought mods were for - to watch out for this... not to leave it to an all-controlling filter!

Anyhow, I've said me piece - nice to be back on board!

Smile
