Ahoy hoy...........
Well, the weather in Ulverston was warm and sunny as usual. I managed to get pics of the Saps at Sea Banner, Laughing Gravy Banner and Midnight Patrol Banner, but there were many more represented in the Parade of the Tents. The Sons were lucky in being placed in the parade behind a red shirted drum band which provided calypso/carnival style rhythms for the march. When the music stopped, the Sons voices were raised in "Lonesome Pine" and "We are the Sons... " harmony which sounded much louder than the actual number of Sons present could provide.
There was some fancy dress amongst us.... of especial note were the "Vampire Slayers" complete with fangs and scythes, and an immacualate pair represnting "The Fiddle & the Bow". The Saps of course came complete with water wings, and a banner adorned with buckets and spade.

I have some pics of the event if anyone is interested. In all it was a great time to meet and make new friend amongst the Sons. Personally I think it is best to avoid some of the worse excesses of the local carnival by retreating to the Stan Laurel Pub after the parade where most Sons seem to gather. By late afternoon a very few of the younger locals do seem to get a bit the worse for the more relaxed carnival drinking laws.

I think more should be made of this event by the Sons..... and I will certainly make every effort ot go again next year.

Glad you enjoyed it, why not post your pictures in the 'Images of your tent meetings, convention' section.

Well the easiest way is to go to here http://photobucket.com/ open an account, its free and easy to use, upload your pictures to your bucket, then post the links to them on the forum, the photobucket gives you the links to post, couldn't be simpler. Just don't say 'Tell me that again'!

I will be putting some photos of the carnival on Bowler Dessert Online very shortly. It was a great day in Ulverston with lots of laughs. Looking forward to meeting Forum members at the Laurel and HarDay in Wigan on 3rd September, another event which goes from strenght to strength.

I have taken your advice and attempted to load four of my Ulverston Pics on Photobucket. I do NOT know if this will work........ but the link is:

Let me know how things go and if successful I will continue the experiment

Well I have expected to go and not know anyone, but I already see familiar faces.

Must book the day off next year, even if it is a weekend!!

Well I'll be there for sure. I love seeing everyone and the sun does always shine. Ulverston has its party hat on and there seems to be more Sons every year. As the museum is 30 years old this year we are hoping for a great day.

I agree, nice to see you on the Forum, Marion.

Ulverston is lovely at any time of the year, but it's extra special when there is a Laurel and Hardy anniversary or celebration of any description.
