Hello All,
I'm glad I found this site as I've been a Laurel & Hardy fan for years. In the past I've collected some of their movies on 8mm and 16mm film and have recently purchased some of the available dvds.

In 1986 I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the Sons of the Desert convention. Three of us from our tent (now defunct) were able to meet and do audiotape interviews with some of the stars of "Babes In Toyland" as well as Rosina Lawrence and Thomas Benton Roberts.
We met some wonderful people from several UK tents including Dirty Work, Berth Marks, Laughing Gravy and Helpmates.

This is a great forum and I look forward to reading the posts here.
Seeing the photos of the Laurel and Hardy museum was a real treat for me - thanks!

Welcome Mike and what an interesting story you have to tell. I'm sure there are many here who would love to hear your interviews. Perhaps we could persuade you?

Hi Ross,
Thank you for the welcome.

The audiotape interviews we did were part of a series our Grand Shiek did over several years. It was called the "Nutty Nut News Network Show" since we were the From Soup to Nuts tent.
As it turned out I was asked to edit the Valley Forge Convention tapes as the Grand Shiek had been taken ill.

I looked today and found the master copy - just an audiocassette, but in excellent condition. It is 90 minutes long.
I noticed there is an interview with Bill Cubin. (We became good friends at the convention and I recall he and his children enjoyed going for a ride in my Camaro to get breakfast.) He talks about the beginning of the Laurel and Hardy museum.
(I have more to type but will send it in the next post as when trying to submit my longer message, the spell ck kept coming up and I was unable to reach the submit button.)

I see the value of the interviews even moreso now since many of the interviewees are no longer with us.
There are also 3 other brief interviews with members of various UK tents which would likely be if interest to many on this board, so I would be glad to make this available.

There are no copyright issues as the tapes were just sent to interested tents. I would guess the best way to share this would be for me to mail copies to anyone interested, and they in turn could make copies for others.
I could also list in the forum here the contents of the audiotape. So feel free to let me know what you would like.

Hard to believe this all took place n early 20 years ago, but it just attests to the continued popularity of "The Boys".

Hi Ross and All,
I will make a copy of the Master tape for you. In listening to it again I found that there is an interview with Lois Laurel Hawes. And Mae Questal (the voice of Olive Oyl, Betty Boop and others), sings and gives a lively interview.
I also found a second tape of the convention as we had a lot of audio material left over. This includes some interviews done at the New York portion of the Babes in Toyland celebration.
Also in Part II for Our Gang buffs, there is the second part of my interview with Thomas Benton Roberts which includes hilarious accounts of his work on the Our Gang set. And there's a brief but affectionate, humorous toast to Finn - and quite a bit more.
So I look forward to sharing this with everyone via your radio program. I'm intrigued as to how that works. Just amazing what can be done with today's technology.

You can email me the address you would like the tapes mailed to and I should be able to send them out in about a week.

Hello All,
Thanks for the welcomes.
And I am telling a few L&H fans I haven't seen in a while
about this forum.
It offers so much and is very nicely set up.

I had belonged to the From Soup To Nuts Tent but our activities stopped when the Grand Sheik passed away about 10 years ago.
I'm hoping to start getting the IntraTent Journal as a Utopia Tent member.
