Sons of the Desert
28th UK Convention 2007
The 28th UK Convention of the International Laurel and Hardy Society - Sons of the Desert, will be held by The Midnight Patrol Tent of "The Potteries" in North Staffordshire. It is to be held at The Quality Hotel, in Hanley.
SPECIAL GUEST FOR THE WEEKEND WILL BE OUR GANG STAR JEAN DARLING - come and meet Jean, and have an autographed photo of someone who actually appeared alongside The Boys in Babes In Toyland!
This will take place over the Bank Holiday weekend of 4th - 7th May 2007, and the basic cost will be £220 per adult, based on shared accommodation.
Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire is located between Birmingham and Manchester, has the M6 motorway on its doorstep and is only 2 hours from London Euston by train.
It is a unique city made up of six towns which are, from north to south – Tunstall, Burslem, Hanley (City Centre & Cultural Quarter), Stoke (Administration Centre), Fenton and Longton. These towns all boast factory shops and ceramic attractions that are famous throughout the world – Wedgwood, Spode, Doulton, Aynsley, and Portmeirion etc. These old pottery & ceramic manufacturing towns are collectively known as “The Potteries”.
Famous Sons of Stoke-on-Trent include novelist Arnold Bennett, footballing legend Sir Stanley Matthews, Spitfire designer Reginald Mitchell, Edward Smith who captained the ill-fated Titanic, comedian Nick Hancock and, not forgetting of course, a rather successful singer by the name of Robbie Williams!
It will be 55 years since the boys topped the bill at The Theatre Royal, Hanley and the Midnight Patrol tent is proud to be your host for what promises to be a memorable UK Convention to be held at The Quality Hotel in Hanley. We’re not giving too much away at the moment, but highlights will include a themed opening night (that’s all we’re saying!), a Way Out West night with entertainment, a film show, the quiz, Sons Entertain, memorabilia sales, charity auction, the inaugural SOD of the Year award (details to follow) plus you really could win over £1 million!!!! There will, of course, be visits to local attractions – several of which are currently being considered.
Is that enough to tempt you to book? It sure is!!!
